I bought one of the original Ultracools before they came out with the Reefer. I don't remember it leaking, but I can say that it didn't do much if any thing to cool the oil. I picked a nice hot day in Phoenix to ride around the 202 with it connected and then went home and by-passed it and did the ride again. No difference in oil temps. I installed a Jagg 10 row side mount I had w/o fans and did the ride again. It lowered the temps somewhat on the highway, 10-15 degrees, didn't do much in stop'n'go. I now use a cooler from a Buell Ulysses that I installed fans on that does a good job of cooling oil.
FYI, I just spoke to Earl at Ultra Cool and they are coming out with a Soft Tail model in 60 days. That should give me just enough time to decide if I want that one or the Jagg haha
Wow, I almost sprung for an ultra cool, glad I read here first. For those of you that made ss hoses, what fittings did you use going into the cooler and adapter? -6ANx1/8"NPT?
I spoke with Marve at Jagg to find out how to run -6AN fittings into the cooler and he said just cut the tubes off flush and tap to 1/8 NPT. Anyone done this with success?
I had the FLH2 version of the ultracool which was the version before the reefer. It worked well for about a year and then started to leak. I couldn't quite pinpoint the leak, but I changed hoses and clamps, and that didn't fix it. I finally removed it last week during an oil change. I found that the lower brass fitting on the cooler was loose and would move back and forth by hand. I also found that the filter adapter was very loose as others have mentioned, but I saw no signs of a leak there. I have tightened all fitting and used teflon tape on all to try to seal the fittings. I may reinstall the cooler at my next fluids change.
I have been using the small fans from Big Sky that are very low cost for some time now they work.
At Rolling thunder thus year with the small oil cooler fans on and my Lenale fan running head temps stay under 250 in DC traffic for hours.
I installed the Oil Bud Cooler and I'm impressed. It droped my oil temp by 30 to 35 degrees. In 80 degree plus temps on the freeway the temp never gets above 200 and in traffic I have yet to see it above 210. It does cost a little more then the Jag, but I feel it is well worth the money.

Not a fan of drilling and taping on a cooler with no good way to make sure it stays clean.Set
If you get the non fan assisted Jagg cooler, it comes with -6 fittings welded in.
I don't think 1/8 pipe is sufficient size for -6 or 3/8 hose. I also modified the filter adapter from 1/8 to 1/4 pipe. Then used 1/4 pipe to -6 fittings. I'm not fond of hose clamps on oil pressure fittings.
I also used this newer hose, it's not SS braided, it's black and has to be crimped with a dedicated machine. It is a very clean set up.
I too had bought the ultracool for my 09 ultra. No leaks on install, but noticed small leak at the end of riding season last fall. Thought it was from oil change weeks before. Wiped it down, didn't leak all winter. Been riding this year noticed small drips on the floor again. Tightened hose clamps, no leaks for one ride, leaks are back. Going on a few day run soon, ultracool going in the trash before I leave. If I find leak source, I may just fix it but not betting my engine on a POS. Did contact ultra cool to upgrade to Reefer. They were out of sight on upgrade cost . I'll spend my money on HD oil cooler
fan assist Jagg here since last year. No leaks; I'm thinking of tapping off the fan hot wire and using it to power up the ABS light. I'd like to know that the thermostat is working.
bought the hd cooler but hadn't installed it. thought about switching from rubber hose to stainless an fittings. in the meantime I contacted Robert at ultracool gave me a good price on reefer unit. really interested in trying this new cooler. Robert sent it out today. keep you updated. this route cheaper than hd cooler, got my money back on way home from work
