08 Ultra - I get a sound that is similar to a dangling key that is tinging against metal. Happens when on throttle, best around 3k rpms on tach(lower rpms and its not much throttle - higher and its too hard to hear with engine/exhaust) As soon as I pull the clutch in and get off throttle to listen, its gone so I don't think its something dangling or rattling, unless its not doing it cuz it smooths out without the throttle engaged. It sounds like its by my left leg somewhere.
I know there are sounds every bike has that are normal and I have not heard all of mine yet so I'm trying to find if this is normal, or something I need to try and pinpoint and get checked out.
Thanks

Reason: added bike model
I've tried putting my foot against the shifter to hold it still, noise still there.... I tried holding the horn cover - didn't work. And there are only so many things I want to take my eyes off the road to look for and even less things I want to grab and hold with a hot engine..LOL
Had about the same thing on my heritage. Searched every inch convinced it was a heat shield, found the spot light was just a touch loose and would "ting" and the sound traveled through the whole bike.
Pinging. Use higher octane gas. In my case I use 91, but I just got the bike out for the season, and i'm getting more pinging than usual. Probably lost some octane over the winter even though I used stabil. I get no pinging at all when I use 94 if thats all I can find. I stick to the 91 usually and only get pinging when the engine is really hot.
Sound will travel on your bike, it could be anything. A good wash and detail will get your hands all over your bike and maybe you will find what is loose.
I had that same sound and it drove me crazy trying to find it. I thought it was an exhaust heat shield. It turned out to be my gas tank lid. The spring had loosened up and the lid would vibrate around 2800-3200 rpm. Try putting pressure on the lid when you hear the sound and see if it stops. I hope that works for you. Its a real pain trying to ID a sound like that.

I have 93 octane in it... doesn't sound like that kind of pinging to my ear. I am thinking something is just loose enough, and the throttle vibration is causing it to rattle just enough. But its also random..its not a constant 'ting' and it has no cadence. If I had a key dangling I would swear it was that.
