Great writeup Murph. I've done several sets now, and it seems the taller the bars the harder it is to pull the wire. These 16" are the tallest I've installed and lovem. I got mine from HCC, they are 14" and measure 16", go figure. I called to tell them they sent me the wrong bars. They said oh no there right. I told them that I been a machinest for over 30 Years and could tell 14" from 16". So to anyone buying apes, be sure to ask for the accual hight from bend to bend. You would be suprised how many bars do not measure what they claim they are. Again, great write up and pic. Ride safe and keep those arm pits dry.

I can't remember the length of the brake cables, but the clutch was +8. I know this because I should have went with +10.

I went with Dr. V-Twin and they are a great company. No complaints. I just think the +10 clutch would be easier to route. Call Dr. V-Twin and they will set you up. I love my 14" Chubbys. Great bars. Good luck with the install. If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know.

wow those are +8, they look slightly tight, the local shop i called today suggested +7 but maybe 10's would be perfect.

Excellent write up and How-to. We need more guys like you on this forum.

First, I am a retired mechanic with a lot of wiring experience. I would rate a bar change with internal wiring a fairly difficult job NOT for just anyone to tackle. Sure, the average guy can do it but there are also some tricky aspects to the job.

There is a reason that shops charge so much to do this job. It takes time and experience to do correctly. The hand controls can be especially frustrating. Pinched wires can often occur here.

I try really hard not to get frustrated with some of the things I see and hear on this forum when guys try to do jobs they should have NEVER attempted. Sometimes I just want to post . . . STEP AWAY FROM THE TOOLS.

On the other hand, write-ups like yours can really help the average guy get the job done and avoid some trouble.

Thanks for taking the time to take the pictures and do the write-up. I know it took some of your valuable time to do it.
