I am a newcomer to the HD forum . Last year I inherited a 1997 HD Road King from my brother . There are also some new parts with it that I know he wouldn't have purchased unless they needed to be replaced . I plan on replacing the old with the new , learning more about the bike , getting my motorcycle license and enjoying this bike . My question is , I have 2 small boxes that are labeled
"front hardware docking kit - f" # 53104-97a
"kit , front docking , flhr , 2 up" # 53746-97a
what are parts these for ?
any help is greatly appreciated.

Looks like a Tour Pack mounting kit - here is a quick general description from HD instructions:
This Tour-Pak Rack Kit is designed for installation on 1997 and
later FLHR and 1998 and later FLHRC when equipped with
Solo Seat. This kit is designed to work with King Tour-Pak,
Chopped Tour-Pak or Leather Tour-Pak. Tour-Pak and Solo
Seat Kits (if necessary) must be purchased separately.
IMPORTANT
This kit requires installation of Rear Docking Point Kit (Part
Number 53450-97B), and Front Docking Point Kit (Part
Number 53104-97A), along with the bracket included in this kit
(Part Number 53805-99), before the Tour-Pak rack can be
mounted.
Rear Docking Point Kit (53450-97B) and Front Docking Point
Kit (53104-97A) must be purchased separately from your
Harley-Davidson Dealer.
