Question Chrome hand controls?

I put on new chrome brake and clutch levers. I did not bleed the brake system prior.everything went well. However when I apply the front brakes the lever is very hard and the front brakes don't work now. I have an 09 street glide with abs. My guess is I need to bleed the front? Since I have abs, do I have to take it to the dealer to bleed the brakes?

You shouldn't do anything yourself without the Service Manual for your bike. If you don't want to fork over the big bux for the hard copy you can download the PDF version for $10 and save a tree in the process.

Then you can read the recommended step by step on bleeding brakes with ABS and decide if you want to take it on or bring it in.

Did you just change the levers or did you put on chrome master cylinder too? Just levers shouldn't require a bleed. Sounds like you did something else wrong. It is not required to have a dealer "bleed" ABS brakes, it is simply that a digital technician is required to check the system for air and that is only when the module cables have been affected.

I am with dawg on this one. Something isn't right. I just put on chrome M/C, switch housings, levers on an ABS bike, no problems.

I have the sm. It says to use the digital tech to verify air is removed. All I replaced was the levers. So Im surprised as well. The lever is rock hard with about an inch travel. Could it be the reservoir piston?

Is the lever you put on absolutely identical to the one you pulled off? Maybe its catching somewhere in the purch.
