splines in clutch

Yes, The splines in the clutch hub are made from a softer material than your mainshaft on the tranny. Thank GOD for that because the clutch hub is alot easier to replace. New hub is about $90 at the dealer and go ahead and get a new retaining nut while your there. After talking to a few friends of which one is the service manager I was told on the "down-low" that the reason the teeth on the clutch hubs crack is because of the "chatter" from the weak compensator. So, unless your bike is 2011 or newer which came with the upgraded SE compensator, replace yours or you will run into the same problem down the road. I replaced my hub, retaining nut and installed the SE compensator and I have no more problems and while I was in the primary I also upgraded to the newer auto tensioner which is alot more beefer. My primary is so much quieter now and neutral is very easy to find. The cracked teeth is pretty common, just look on ebay at all the clutch assemblies for sale. Most of them are for sale because they just bought a new clutch assembly and didn't want to mess with the disassembly process of changing just the clutch hub. So they sell them and state the clutch is is great shape but the hub has broken/cracked teeth .
