Default Should I change tapets

I have about 30k miles on my 08. Going to change cams should I change tapets at this time. I assume so but as an armature wrentch learning as I go like confirm. Also if not necessary would like to save cash. If so which tapets are recommended, or should I just go SE Harley.
Thanks

If yours are good then you'd be OK, not to say springing for new ones would not be the best course of action though. If I remember right they are a roller type so you don't have the wear pattern on them like a older car type flat tappet would.

I put cams (and gear drive) in my Duece with 51,000 miles and did not change the lifters. The bike now has 80,000 miles and all is well.

If I were doing the same job for someone else and I had to warranty the work I would replace the lifters, unless the customer understood and accepted the potential risk. But being my own bike it was worth the risk to save the bucks as I would only have to answer to myself if there was an issue.

If you have no issues with your lifters now and you are doing the work yourself, save the money. Roller lifters can last a long, long time. You can always replace the lifters at another time if you have a problem.

I believe with that mileage, I would probably change them out. That way you can buy a better quality aftermarket lifter, do it while you are in the cam chest, and you can cross any future lifter issues off your list.

I have an 2008 as well with about the same miles on it. i am looking at replacing the cams too and will be replacing the lifters with Feuling lifters, also probably replacing the tensioner pads (or I might go with gear cams). I am looking at replacing the camplate, oil pump (feeling's hi flow oil pump) , push rods, inner cam bearings, etc. I figure if I am going in there I am going to replace and upgrade it so I shouldn't have to do it again.
