Default Ignition switch help!!

Ok boys 'n girls, yesterday I installed the monotubes on my '12 RGC and when reassembling got the dreaded ignition switch mismatch , couldn't get it to align no matter what, wait it gets better, through all the fussing with the friggin' switch I managed to crack/break it at the base . I am now waiting for the local dealers to open and hopefully someone will have it in stock.
I believe it's part number 71572-06;
1. Has anyone replaced this switch?
2. Anything in particular I should look out for while installing?
3. Is is just a simple bolt-on/replacement deal?

BTW the forks are "of course" locked, I do not have the alignment tool but I do have my svc manual .

Happy Easter all!!

Thanks

Hey Dawg ...you beat me to the PM

Yep, thats the p/n, hopefully, one of those 15 will be in Sth. Fl.
Since you didn't comment on the install I'm assuming it'll be a straight part swap.

Thanks, brother!

You dont need a special tool, conveniently enough the **** itself will go right in there and turn the top tumbler to align with the bottom tumbler and get back in the right position.

BTW for future reference remove the **** in the ACC position not LOCK!

Install is simple remove nacelle bolts and swing them out of the way, remove 2 bolts holding the switch down, unplug connector and lift switch up.

Doc... so once the new switch is installed the chrome selector **** will go in aligning the tumblers? No need to adjust or align anything on the new switch, correct?

BTW this is the first time this has happened, taken out the switch **** countless times on different scoots without a hitch and yesterday, bam! no matter what I did/tried wouldn't align. Also learned how fragile these switches really are, it came out in pieces spewing connectors and ballbearings in the process.

thanks

I sympathise with you, the first time I had mine out was the same except I didn't break anything, finally got it but it seemed like a mystery. You can take the spring off and use the switch for allignment as said above.

Can't you leave in any position prior to removal? I usually just use "Off" (straight up). If you use "Acc" won't that drain the battery to some extent while you're working?

Where've you been hiding in the past year? Are you still working in Idaho? Anyway, welcome back.

Brought the new switch home, had to remove the bars to install it due to the rear electrical connector in the way, didn't want to risk cracking it. No biggie as the instrument nacelle was off anyway.
Once the bars are out of the way install took not even 3 minutes, dropped in the chrome selector **** and guess what?!?! The sumbitch fought me all the way. First it went in and cycled thru all the positions but would not lock the forks, then the **** wouldn't lock, then it wouldn't come out, then it went in cycled thru all the positions but no power!!

I'm now thinking "demonic posession", listened to the wife and walked away ...couldn't resist, came back and ended up re-aligning the tumblers again with a flat blade screwdriver, tried about three times and suddenly I PREVAILED!!!
The friggin' switch is back in, working as supposed to. Dang!

Part# 71572-06 $61.90 with FL tax.

Thanks all for the time and support ...much apppreciated as always!
