I recently bought a 2012 street glide so I am new to fuel injection mods everything I owned before was carburated. I am installing Vance and Hines true duals with a K&N filtter kit for now so I was thinking about installing the Cobra Fr2000 auto tuner because its supposed to automaticly self adjust to any future mods down the road. Has anyone used this unit and what do you think of it. Thanks
Its my understanding that the Cobra units are "piggy back fuel tuners" they make no adjustment to timing. These type of units can work well for minor mods but are very limited in what they can change. For the money that they list for (400 range) there are many IMO better tuners available , Power Vision, TTS, SERT, etc.
Most of the newer flash tuners have a self tune future or data logging so it can be used with out a dyno. IMO go with a flash tuner, why add an extra piece to the bike or play around "tricking" the ecm into the correct setting when you can reprogram the ECM to the proper settings.
If you go with a Dyno Jet product, Power Commander or Power Vision call Fuel Moto and talk to them, they wont steer you wrong and offer the best info and support you will find anywhere.
I'll second what Xaran said. I haven't seen any feedback on the Cobra system but wouldn't buy a relatively unknown device like this without thorough research. Actually, I would recommend thorough research regardless of the tuners on your short list, even the well-established brands and models. All of the well-known tuners discussed here repeatedly work well, but they fit different niches.
The one point worth repeating is the recommendation to call Fuel Moto. They sell a number of tuners, possibly even the Cobra, and will not steer your wrong or try to hard-sell you.
Thanks for you input after I read a little bit more on different tuners I just got off the phone with Fuel Moto they not only hooked me up with a tuner but also sold the rest of the package header pipes and stage 1 breather kit cheaper than where I was going to buy it. You were right Xaran the Cobra unit was only fuel managment.
