This question comes up regularly from those that first figured "I don't want ABS", but change their mind after purchase.

With enough money, anything is possible to be built. You could find all of the parts off an ABS bike. You could add them. But they would not work unless tied into the ECM. The ECM must be reprogrammed. No Harley dealer can reprogram the ECM for ABS. It must be programed by the Factory. And the Harley Factory will take the liability of attempting to do this. Plus, even if you were able to find a used ECM from an ABS equipped motorcycle and install it, the bike would not be covered legally if it were involved in any kind of collision.

Cheaper to just buy another bike equipped with ABS.

I tried doing this in 2009. Couldn't get the parts from HD etc. My 2011 has ABS and it works....and works well!

I love the H-D ABS system on the newer bikes. It saved my *** last year and I may not be here today had it not been on my "must have" list when I bought my SG.

When I bought my 2010 Street Glide it had ABS on it. Didn't really think or know much about it prior to buying. When the loser driving next to me cut me off and I had to dynamite the brakes, I was glad I had ABS.

As to installing ABS on a non ABS bike, as noted all the parts could be added but from the sound of things it would basically involve taking the bike apart in a major way to install the necessary wiring and components.

Considering the cost difference between buying all the required parts and trading in the bike for one with ABS...I would just trade it in...you will prolly come out better by trading it, less out of pocket that way!
