Hoping you guys can help me out, or at least point me in the right direction...
Went to start up my '09 RKC yesterday to go to work, and as soon as I turned the ignition switch it made a "stepping on a cats' tail" sound from under the console. The sound lasted only a brief second and stopped, I didn't start the bike and turned the switch off. Tried it again, turned on the ignition and the same sound happened. Pulled the bike back in the garage into the light, but this time when I turned the switch I didn't have the key fob with me and the flashers started going off...but only the left side, the right side was dead. Got the fob, started the bike, and again only the left side worked and the right side was dead.
Can it be as simple as a bulb, and when one goes out the other goes out too? (I can't be that lucky) Or is it an electrical issue, possibly a switch? The bike ran fine the day prior and all days before that, just yesterday it decided to be a b!tch.
I haven't had time to dig into it deeper, plan on trying to track down the problem tonight. Thanks for any help you guys can give...
Can’t comment on the Cat’s Tail sound, nor can I see how it would be related to lights malfunctioning. The H-DSSS is looking for a certain current draw from the lights and if one of them is burned out or not seated well or corroded it can cause problems like you describe. I would start by taking each one out inspecting the filament and cleaning the contacts on the bulb and socket then add some dialectic grease and reinstall, replacing any suspect bulbs.

thanks for the input, I plan on taking the bulbs out when I get to the house. It was and is strange that this noise happened at the same time the right side went dead...almost like a switch trying to engage but not working properly.
