Road King sound
American Custom
Wild Pigs run about $190 w/shipping direct from the manufacturer. They sound quite similar to Rush, and their quality is very good. You can choose from 1 3/4", 1 7/8, 2, 2 1/4 and 2 1/2" baffles. The baffles are a snap to change, and I have 4 sets of baffles for the two sets of mufflers I own. I repacked them with stainless steel wool wrapped with aluminum screen for the best tone with good packing duability, and swap the baffles on my Ultra with ease depending on what type of riding I'll be doing-1 3/4" for touring, 2 or 2 1/4" for local riding. The Pigs can be run w/o packing for a big increase in volume, but you lose some of the tone. Either way, you have options with Wild Pigs that you don't have with a lot of other mufflers. I originally had Reinhart mufflers on the Ultra (awful!), and went to Vance and Hines ovals, which were so-so. The Pigs are far better than both, at far less cost. The customer service from the company is first rate, and you get a live person when you call rather than a electronic "menu".
You can achieve the sound and volume you want at a fraction of the cost of the big name exhaust and mufflers.

But I love the "Darth Vader" sound my FLHTP has with the 2.5" baffles! It just sounds plain mean, which is a good thing in a police bike.
That could be, nothing looks out of the ordinary when I check the spark plugs. I guess I just assumed that getting it tuned would get rid of it.
As far as the OP was saying about being extremely loud, my opinion would be not to have it too rediculous on a daily rider. Again, thats just me. Now on my '82 on the other hand I run open fishtails, no baffels, no nothing. Its just loud as hell, and it has that sweet, lopey, Shovelhead idle. I don't ride that one everyday though, and I wouldn't want to listen to it for a 2, 3, 400+ mile ride!
