Help,what removes melted boot from exhaust?
I had to clean the wife's sneaker off my pipes and I remember having to get the pipes hot before using some cleaner (but I can't remember what the cleaner was). Anyway I failed several earlier attempts and succeeded after someone gave me the tip to heat the pipes first. Good luck!

Even 0000 steel wool will wear through chrome eventually. Oven cleaner or new Harley stuff. Colonel Brassy if you can find it. Be very gentle. Ask me how I know. Had to replace my shields with some one's take-offs after using green scrubber sponge.

You aren't going to believe this, but a copper penny. Pennies made before 1982 are 95% copper, and are softer than your chrome...won't scratch. I use one for tar, boot marks, and anything else that won't come off. Never even got the lightest scratch anytime. Just make sure it's before 1982, or else it's mostly made of zinc and is harder.

I have used the Easy-Off on the cold pipes. Put a plastic sack or trash bag behind the pipe so it does not get on any paint behind the pipes. Shake well, get close, spray just a little and go have a beer. Use a plastic scraper, not metal and rinse well with soapy water afterwards. If necessary dry thourghly and repeat. Have had to do it 3 times and comes right off. I wouldn't use any abrasive steel wool at all.
