I went with 2-3's as they have a little over 4" of travel. Double what was afforded by the stock shocks. Been riding Ohlins since 79. They are an outstanding unit with very few on the same level and progressive is not one on the same level. But that doesn't mean that progressive won't work well for many riders, progressive is a good bolt on and forget it shock.

I agree Ohlin makes a great shock,in my case I want a lowered shock and would like to see proof the Ohlin makes a good lowered shock.

With the 3-3s, the ride height can be altered, down to 12 1/2" if memory serves. I have mine adjusted out to max height and would like to go up to 13 1/2". IMO the handling is much more neutral with the extra height in the rear.

Take a look at Motorcycle Metal's website, there are Ohlins in several lengths. What sort of proof do you want to see?

I went from stock, to Progressive to Ohlins 3-3's.. There is not comparison, the Ohlins are far superior every way. When you bolt on the Ohlins and upgrade the front suspension its like you just bought a new bike for very little money.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I read each post and considered what was said. I like the idea of an adjustable, i.e., 'lowered' for around town, and 'lengthened' for touring. The question then becomes, what's the difference between the '2' series and the '3' series?

Do I have it right, the 3 series Ohlins are a grand for a set? I'll read the posts in the link provided, too. Thanks...

Whatever they cost, they are cheap!

These shocks have gas and oil inside them. The #2s are 'emulsion' type, with the gas and oil able to mix together. The #3s are 'separated', with a diaphragm between the gas and oil, also they have better quality components to give better control, plus a damper adjuster. All shocks are not created equal! Howard will explain better than most of us can.
