What does he do for transportation the other 5 months of the year?
He lives in town upstairs from the pub where he works at night, and walks. There is also a small Shuttle bus that stops 100 feet up the road from him. Interesting guy, he moved here from NY City 3.5 years ago and gave up all luxury for the simple life.
His bike always has plenty of ventilation around it and it isn't being exposed to all the chemicals (detergents, solvents etc) that you are putting on yours every time you wash it.
I do the same with my trucks. I only wash them for special occasions. They look as good as new. My neighbor used to complain that after a couple years the primer shows through his paint. I washed my 10 year old truck and he thought I had it repainted.
He'd spend every Sunday washing and cleaning his car. 3 or 4 times a year he'd give it a new coat of wax (and removing a layer of "dead" paint).
Doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out that if your rag turns the same color as the vehicle you have rubbed through any wax that was there and also the clear coat.
