Coinidence...
Hi guys....I owned my 05 Road king for a year..Over the winter I put Red Line Heavy in the tranny...600 mile later I have a leak. I did not really need Red Line with a 5 speed....I was wandering if I changed back to regular tranny oil it might reduce the leak...thoughts. PS..Had no leak before...Brummie
I don't know the oil you speak of BUT did you check the bottom bolts that hold the exhaust bracket? Ain't no oil gonna stay if you open the trap door.
Anyhow, I was advised that the expense of lube such as red line is a waste of cash, just use HD's primary lube or any 20w-50.

I run gear lube in the trans, it didn't cause the leak, I would guess that your trap door bearing housing is loose, but you didn't say which end of the trans is leaking.
The trap door bolts tend to back out, the best thing to do is pull the bolts one by one clean, loctite, and re-tourque.

I have a Baker DD6 in my 2000 Ultra and they recommend Red Line oil.
I've had some issues but none were leak related and I've been using it for years.
Perhaps H-D has a different but I agree with another poster that as thick as the Red Line oil is, any 20-50 oil would leak much more.

I have a real hard time believing shockproof heavy caused a leak. Something must be loose or it's something else.
I have been using shockproof since I got my bike and I have had no issues whatsoever.
I suggest checking everything over, tighten everything up.

how to find the source of a leak:
spray the suspect area with drugstore spray-on foot powder, the seep will wash it away from the source.
check bolts for torque
check/replace gaskets
( on a HD the trap door cover can be removed with out loosing much fluid if you roll the tires up on a 2x4 and lean it on the jiffy- make sure it is stable)
some older machines ( esp running conventional oils) will build up crud along the gaskets.
switching to synthetic may clean this crud away--- and since the synth is typically less viscous, it can seep through the gasket at this nice clean area.
if the leak is at the clutch cable- check the vent for mud from a wasp- very common, a blocked vent will force fluid to find a new way out as pressure builds.
