Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good windshield (brand and height) for highway riding. The standard issue for the 2012 road glide is really short and im getting blasted. Also should i go with tinted or is this not a good idea for night riding? Thanks in advance for input.
How tall are you? I am 6'1 and use a CeeBaileys SERG 15" shield (straight line from top of sield is just below my nose) light tint and am able to look over it, it offers great wind protection even when riding above the suggested speed limits.
I second the SERG from Cee Baileys in the high appropriate for your height. I Have had a few brands over the years and nothing has impressed me like Cee Baileys, the windshield quality is second to none. I didn't get the SERG version but after seeing the nice bottom edge strip that goes under the windshield I wish I had...
You failed to mention your height, inseam, riding slouch, and if you are running a stock seat or not, but I can tell you that I swear by Windvest.
I'm 6ft/34" inseam and ride a 2011 RGC with stock seat and ride with a slight slouch. I ran the 12" Gunsmoke for a while, which worked perfect without a helmet, but was a tad too short for helmet riding, as the wind was still pretty strong against the forehead part of my helmet. I held out for their 1st special run of 13" Gunsmoke shields, and it was perfect. In my riding position, the top of the shield is in line with my mustache, and kicks the strong wind right up over my half and 3/4 helmets.
After having several windshields on mine, the one that works best and those who have one will agree, is a madstad. They are a different look, and are pricey. But you will save more getting one instead of several other brands. Im 6'0 32 inseam and have the 13inch smoke. Check em out.
I purchased the National Cycle Part #: N20423 *VStreamŽ Replacement Windscreen; Low*
for my 2012 FLTRX after about 4k miles with the stock shield. This particular windshield with the dark tint did not take away from the "look" of the stock shield but added quite a bit of comfort. It is no where near as calm when compared to the stock windshield on my old '07 FLTR but I can hear the stock stereo and I am not forced to wear a full face helmet just so I can breathe at 80 mph. I love my VStreamŽ Windscreen Low. You can purchase from J&P and they might even have a floor model / used but perfect shape and they are way cheap. I got mine for just under $100. Hope this helps.
