Default Wheel Bearings

2009 FLHTC 26,000 miles. Front wheel bearing on left side went out. Started clicking, so I slowed down. Put it on my lift and checked it out. No doubt, bearing is shot.

Dealer said they never heard of wheel bearings failing that soon.

Adjustment may have been overlooked during dealer prep.

Default wheel Bearings

Don't know as the newer style bearings are adjustable. They are the sealed bearings, not like the older taper bearings.

Just replaced both my front bearings tonight. Had a slight roaring on the way back from Thunder Beach. They both looked good but felt rough compared to the new ones. Guess my old ears still work after all. Used the Jim's tool and went right by the instructions and neither would turn by hand. Put the wheel back on the bike and it turned freely. Went for a short ride and both were cool so I hope all is well with the install. A little worried the could not turn by hand but I guess time will tell.

My right front wheel bearing failed today at 70 mph (2008 EGC w/ABS). No catastrophe but it really got my attention. When I got home and pulled the wheel the ***** fell out.

I hope the dealer has them in stock and can press them in on a Sunday. I'm going to replace both sides.

I just replaced the front set 1000 miles ago because i had a bad vibration in the front end. After riding a few hundred miles most of the vibration was gone but still had a vibration that was felt thru the whole bike. Changed out the both rear bearings and found on a two hundred mile ride today the vibration was gone. I have 45,000 miles on a 2009 ultra. This is the third set of front wheel bearing that i have put on. I will be replacing the complete set of front and backwhen i have 30,000 miles on them

Tell your dealer to get out of the dark ages.............well known failure especially in the 2009 tourers, hence the superseded part to an "A"
