The bottom of a beer bottle cut my Dunlop SP5000 right on the edge of the sidewall, it only had a little over 20,000 miles and still had at least 1/3 of thread life remaining. Bummer.
So I am back on my D407 with Profile spoke wheels and innertubes, until I recover from a financial setback.
The loss in traction when compared to the car tire is very noticeable, and its hard as a rock, lol.
I will probably go with a 205/55-16 Michelin for my next tire.
I'd be interested to know which Michelin you're going to try. The section width on most Michelin tires I looked at in that size, was about 1/2" wider than your Dunlop. Any concern with fitment
I just bought a Michelin Primacy MXV4. I'm having it mounted Thursday after work. I'm a little concerned about the fit. I went with a 205/65/16. The 205 is not much of a concern, it is only 3/10th of an inch more than the SP 5000 and I have a 1/2" of room on each side. The section width is 8.2 on a 6" rim. Squeeze that down to a 5" rim and it should be fine. The problem might be the high profile 65, it may be too tall, also the sides probably won't pull in as much as a lower profile tire, so it could end up to tall and to wide. As far as I know no one else has tried it and for some reason I have to know, so come Thursday I'll find out.
Hey TooEasy, that Pilot Sport is rated at 186mph, what kind of engine work have you been doing to your bike.
Interesting, you're saying the car tire is softer and has more traction, I've often found the opposite to be true.
Don't encourage him, Roberto has form on this topic!
Roberto, Dunlop bike tyres for Harleys are the pits. European branded bike tyres are far superior. Michelin are OK, but my own choice is Avon. You really should try some.....
I had Avons on my Heritage and really liked them. My good friend swears by the Michelins. Currently running the Elite III on my Ultra. I'm not sold on this idea of the car tire........?????
I have the 205/65/16 Michelin Primacy MXV4 mounted. It fits, just barely. It seems to be fine but I do not recommend it. Do not go any larger than 205/60/16, it is almost an inch less in diameter and will fit just fine. Also it fit the rim so good it seated at 20 lbs.
