I use a 1/2 hd helmet, just sit it on the seat or on the highway peg if I am going to be near. If I am away from the sccot it goes in the saddlebag..

If they want, they'll take it. I suppose it depends on where you park. I see them on seats, mirrors, and road pegs all the time. Nobody seems to bother it. Congrats on the new ride.

I have an HD helmet lock on my engine guard. I can rotate my helmet( full face) so that no rain can get in it and it is far enough away from any hot parts on the engine so nothing scorches or melts. We can lock two helmets on the thing also.
I wasn't sure where I wanted it to be at first, so I took a piece of bicycle inner tube and "lined" the clamp in case the clamp left any scratches on the tube. Works well!

I installed two of the HD locks (keyed alike) under the rear of my tour pac. I am a trusting person but a cheap helmet starts getting very expensive when you add a nice JM headset or other brand. Better to be safe than sorry.
These are only used if the tourpac is fully loaded on a trip, otherwise I lock the helmets up inside the box.

I saw several post where people lost saddle bags and someone even lost a detachable tour pac.
I worry about this with the quick detachable tour pak and saddle bags I have. I was wondering if I should perm. mount them. that would slow them down if they try and steal em.
The locks for the quick disconnect on the back rest and tour pak are cheap enough. I installed them in 5 minutes. I was amazed at how easy it was. As for the the saddlebags, if you look in the DIY, Save some $$$ area, several people talked about buying a bolt the same size as the cotterpinned quck disconnect with a wingnut to go over the end. Take a small drill and put a hole in the bolt and run a small lock through it. Again, only stops the casual thief but only costs $10 or so to do both sides. And is still moderately quick disconnecting without payingthe $200 for theHD saddle lock.

I wear a half helmet and just hang it from the left side mirror.
