if i am only going to be away for a few minute or can keep a eye on it on thepeg, left grip or seat, but I also have a scorpio alarm with a perimeter sensor so if some one gets to close it screams and pages me. If it's going to be a long length of time my half helmet will fit in my saddle bag.
I saw several post where people lost saddle bags and someone even lost a detachable tour pac.
I worry about this with the quick detachable tour pak and saddle bags I have. I was wondering if I should perm. mount them. that would slow them down if they try and steal em.
I have the detachable sissy bar, so I bought the locking bracket for one side. I don't understand why HD doesn't sell the detachable stuff with locking brackets. You have to buy the locks separately.

Is it an HD part? have any pics i can see how it works, I thought about useing the gun locks I have tons of them, (being a local po po) Would you all replace the quick release pins for the saddle bags with bolts to make them harder to steal?
I have a SG. When we are traveling and are using helmets. I use a trailer coupler lock. I stick it down thru the hole where the mirrors would be bolted to on a bike without the fairing mounted mirrors. Just run it thru the D rings and thru this hole.

I am talking about the detachable lock for the sissy bar.
HD #46063-98 for one.cost $32.95
HD# 46106-00 set of two cost $59.95.
When I went to the dealer to get it, they tried to sell me the package of two. I told them if I lock one side of the detachable sissy bar the other side is not going anywhere.
After I made up that cheapcable and lock for my helmet, I thought it would make sense to secure my detachable sissy bar. The sissy bar is what I secure my helmet to.

I hang mine on the right grip, or on th brake pedal if it looks like rain (found a full of water helmet after a movie a bit uncomfortable). Wife puts hers over the sissy bar when she goes with. Only had 1 helmet stolen and think it was kids messing around. Myrtle Bike week and it was the day I was leaving to go back to NC go figure (200+ miles no helmet, 7 LEOs and no tickets)
Similar to my set up, I carry two, one to lock helmet other to lock jacket. I made my own for about $13.00; bought parts at Home Depot.

HD does make helmet locks, they are short money, under 20 bucks as I recall, and they can be mounted on your crash bars or saddle bag guards. Mine are on the front frame downtubes
I have 2 on my bike, I had a locksmith buddy key them alike since you can not order them like keyed from HD.
I also got some aircraft cable and crimp ends and made some cables so I can either lock my skid lid to the HD lock, or with my full faced Shoeis (500 bucks each) that don't fit well where I installed the locks, I just run the cable thru the helmet and then to the lock.
