The auto air shock video. While that unit is cute in theory, ANY loss of clearance or a lean limitation is a no go for me. 2.5" DROP is just a maliciously bad idea IMHO but I ride at a different level than most so my opinion on it may not apply to you.
i would guess your sig pic gives that away

the auto drop /raise shocks are not air, they are hydraulic. and you would only have that 2.5'' drop at a stop, or very slow speeds. i actually would like to try those out as i could really use that drop (short legs) but can't afford the price of admission

If you follow my lead on this....you will be happy in the end....if you ignore it, then good luck. I know becuase I have played this game, and personally know a couple AAFES salesman.

~Joe
when i was in iraq, i checked out the aafes sales. the cost of the bike was the same (msrp), but aafes tossed in a 2 year extended warranty for no extra charge. that could explain the 8% under that you are quoting. however, i don't typically go for extended warranties, and half the stuff we do to our bikes voids them anyways....

and me personally, i didn't care for the 'no sales tax' pitch that they throw at you. sure, you don't pay sales tax when you buy the bike, but just wait until you try to register it in the states. if you can't show sales tax paid, then that is gonna be one expensive license plate and the salesman glosses over that fact because he wants to make the sale and these young joes don't wanna hear that

The wife and I combine out at 330 and ride an 09 Road King with 5-8 lbs. of rear shock pressure (real cushy ride). She wanted an Ultra but I got the King, put on a tourpak with wrap around backrest & Sundowner seat (her throne). I'm not much for lowers and prefered the classic look of the windshield on the King. You wouldn't go wrong with a Road King!

I wouldn't own another bat wing bike. Love the RK, maybe try a Road Glide next time. The bat wing is horrible in the wind.

I love my King cuz I'm not much into the whole batwing fairing thing. I would strongly suggest riding both of them. Rent both of them for a weekend or something before you finally decide to pull the trigger.

I have a RK and have had a Street Glide. I am currently trying to figure out if a conversion to a Road King Glide is possible.

I'm not in it for the tunes because I personally prefer my iPhone and a pair of good ear buds to the sound of the stereo.

Thank you for serving our country and good luck on your choice. I second the motion of driving them first.

Well I locked in my bike today. I went with the Candy Orange/Beer Bottle Road King. I just couldn't get past the versatility of the bike and now that they have pretty good speaker kits for it, I figured that was the best bike for me.

I think its gets down to whether you want the comfort of a touring bike for your rides or really plan on serious touring. I chose the RK because my use is still primarily cruising. I can add a tour pack and other goodies for some real touring later on. Both are great choices but I think you just need to think realistically about your likely usage.

Good luck!

YUP - just money. I am in the same position. Just picked up an 08 HD batwing fairing about a month ago. Getting ready to move now and don't have time to do anything with it so let me know if you want to buy the fairing from me.

Since you do not care about the stereo, it should be a pretty simple job.

I think that is a bit subjective. I am not used to the batwings without the lower adjustable air deflectors so I can only comment on that experience and I have over 200,000 miles on the goldwing and we all know about the "fairing" on that thing.

With the above in mind, I have to disagree with you. Again, this is a very personal and subjective opinion though.

I've had both and would go with the Road Glide if you're actually going to tour. I rode my Road Glide from Germany to Sicily and back last summer and it was so much better than when I rode my RKC to Pamplona, Spain and back. The radio is nice too.
