exhaust question
Need some help...
I've got a 2012 street glide and I want the CFR slip ons and I'd also like to remove the cat. At the moment everything else is bone stock as far as motor. If I do this will I need to tune or will i be alright with the factory tune?
Basically I want deeper and louder sound without having to all the other stuff. The bike has plenty of ***** and I really just dont want to jack with the tuning and air cleaners if I don't have to.
I've read through tons of threads but still haven't come across a difinitive answer. Thanks

"Definitive Answer" well it is the internet.. so you'll get opinions.
but mine are based on experience with Harleys for years. Various models. Some automotive training & lots of at-home tuning of carb and ignition systems- so I have an understanding of how the systems all work together.
With just exhaust work, de-cat and slip ons.
Chances are 95% with the stock air cleaner you'll be fine.
an indication of a tuning problem is pinging which sounds like pebbles rattling in a coffee can fron the top of the motor.
if you experience that a tune will correct it.
I use nightrider.com xieds- about $125 and plug in line with the o2 sensors.
There are more expensive and complex units, the xieds did what I needed.
If you decide to get a high flow air cleaner, the xieds will likely be enough. the Ness big sucker is about $125 and great bang for buck, an easier install than the screaming eagle.
with a high flow air cleaner ( in addition to your exhaust) you will see 7 to 10 horsepower- no reason not to take advantage of this as the exhaust is the hard part.

I just gutted my cat the other day. I will say that you may want to do that on the stock mufflers first. It did make the bike a little louder and much deeper. You can hear it when you roll on the throttle but it quietens down when she levels out. A very pleasant rumble.
I stopped at a shop the other day and a guy was just having the CFR's put on his bike for I believe he said $750.00 He saw my RC Customs Excalibur exhaust and was kicking himself, especially when I told him I got them for $379.00 TTD.
