I think the Turtlewax black box does a fantastic job when you put it on, but it just doesnt seem to hold up and it doesnt repel worth a darn. Might have to try an application of pledge over the it and see how that works.
What parts do you use Pledge on? Everything including chrome? What about seats, rubber parts, and saddle bags (leather wrapped), engine?
I usually wash with Turtle Wax Car Soap
Rinse, then blow dry
Hit the paint areas with McGuires Mirror Polish
Chrome gets sprayed with glass cleaner
Leather stuff with Armor-All leather care
Rubber areas with Armor-All Original spray
Takes me forever to detail the bike, and the worst part is the engine area where the textured paint makes it a real chore to get bugs off.
Also, what kinds of brushes, sponges, tools are you guys using? What do you guys with spoke wheels use to clean spokes?
They all work great if you have a good wax base. I normally wax the bike twice a year and use one of these products after each ride. No detailer spray is a substitute for a wax.
Having a vivid black bike I go through a lot of detailer to lift off dust and lubricate the surface, when wiping the bike down after each ride to prevent swirl marks.
Spending $7 - $15 for a 500ml bottle of detailer is very expensive.
Mix 8 fl oz's to a gallon of water and put in a spray bottle.
Does a fantastic job.
You'll pay about $40 for 128oz jug which will make 18 gallons of detailer!
I use lots when I wipe down my bike without having to be stingy with it.
Remembered another one I like, don't know if anyone has tried it or not. Purple Slice! Good stuff http://purpleslice.com/ I started using it to clean windshields, then found it's amazing for just about everything!
Its the best thing since sliced bread. about 5 bucks a can and you can use it on everything on your bike.
i have tried lots and some of the others are ok as well but cost more and i dont think they work as well.
Pledge... on paint, chrome, and windshield. Works great. Been using it for years on my different bikes... really makes the colors come out and pop, and easy to use... I use two micro-fiber cloths, one to spread the Pledge, then immediately buff lightly with the other to a great shine.
It depends on what, if anything, you use in addition to the quick detailer spray. If you are using carnuba wax for instance versus a silicone based "wax". It's important to go with a system rather than a piece meal approach. Personally I prefer Griots products.
