So you don't pull cover as in derby cover? I was shown to take that off and fill it thru the inspection opening...
Correct, I have in the past to make sure one quart is right, but now just use one of those small long funnels u get at Walmart or whatever. It fits just under the chain, dump 32 once and good to go.
I always drain my Fluids with the Engine Hot, mine always takes more than a Quart and that is also the best time to check your primary chain adjustment and adjust your clutch.
It would be nice if Harley could add a Fill to spill plug in the primary cover.

Yup transmission fluid funnel does the trick. But I did see harley makes a primary funnel as well.
For fluid changes (not starting with a dry primary), how much you should add depends on how much you got out. A HARD, SOLID fixed quantity will always have the chance of an overfill or under fill if the draining job not thorough or very thorough. If you are **** about it, check the level as the book describes, there is no substitute for that. I have read the the guys who service the Police bikes, especially those used in maneuvering demos and contests, OVER service the primary for extra clutch cooling. I have never gotten any solid verification on this, however. In my experience (ONE guy, one bike) how easy it is to get neutral depends more on clutch adjustment AND a good gear oil in the transmission rather than lube level in the primary. Yes, I know what the book says, I have and use the book.
Consider this:
One of my trucks, in the manual, states the coolant capacity. When I change the coolant, do I put that much back in there?
NO!
I fill it to the appropriate level, however much it takes.
Let that marinate, it will come to you in a while...
