I just installed the HD Premium rear shocks. I waited for a 20% sale so I got them for $400.

There is a railroad crossing close to my house that made my bike feel like it was going to fall apart with the stock shocks -huge improvement with the new shocks! I am sure there are even better shocks out there, but these are an excellent upgrade for the money.

the #3-#3's can be adjusted down to `12 3/4" height , I have them at that height and added the LA Chopper lowering blocks that drops the shocks straight without changing the shock angle , so I'm actually at 11 3/4" height with the full function of the #3-#3

If Ohlins are in your budget call Howard and get him to set up a set at your height requirements, either the 2 or the 3 series will be a big improvement over your shocks.

I went Progressive 940 and for the $ 469.00 at US Moto Man they are a great shock and Im very happy with the difference in ride and handling over the stock shocks. They are a 13" shock that sits on the jiffy stand at 12" shock height and when adjusted correctly will drop another 1/2 -3/4 " with rider on the bike so with your weight on the bike they will be lower than your 12" HD shocks. Im also running Progressive Monotubes up front and over all Im very happy with the way the bike performs

Thanks tj316 and Xaran, I was just looking at my budget and may can squeeze in the Ohlins. If I can, that's the way I'm going. Waiting to hear back from Howard before making any decision.

Thanks Again!

SG is my ride, stock shocks with 1" lower kit. with 400 lbs load I set to 35 psi. Prior to last weekend ride I was reading other shock discussions so I was watching for the back end shock action this trip. my conclusions are that at 60+ MPH hitting a pot hole feels like a bottom out, but really there was no time for the shocks to respond. hitting a dip and I could estimate up to the two inch cushioning of the shocks, with a occaional bottom outs. Conclusion, I am keeping the stock shocks.

Wink

A few years ago I spent longer than a care to admit going back systematically through old posts here on HDF. What I found was that for riders who travel 2-up a lot there were some members who wasted a lot of time and spent a lot of money trying every brand of cheap shocks under the sun and were still unhappy.

A few had eventually gone to Howard and bought Ohlins and declared success at last.

Now you can follow in the footsteps of the disappointed, or cut out the fuffing around and phone Howard, which is what I did. They are the only way to travel. Just do it!

As other have said, I don't think you'll find a better shock than Ohlins. If you can swing the $'s in my opinion, that would be the way to go.
