Default Clutch Help!

I have a 2007 FF Flhtcu. I Bought this bike Used with 7900 mile last season it just turned 10k. It seems like there is an issue with the clutch It starts to engage when the lever is almost all the way out. Is this normal? When i have my wife on the back its extremely difficult to pull out on a steep hill. There is about 1/8" free play and i have had an internal adjustment 1500 miles ago to try and solve this issue. is there any way to change where the clutch engages at?

Adjust the clutch on a cold motor.

Backing the adjuster further than 1/2 turn will move the clutch engagement point on the handle closer to the bar.

More free play than 1/16-1/8 at the perch will also make it grab closer.

Take a test ride and adjust the free play as needed to get the engagement and release points correct once it is fully warmed up.

I found a little more free play at the handle is what I needed.

If the other suggestions ain't helping, think about changeing out the clutch spring. In 08' Harley went to the Screaming Eagle spring because of clutch engagement problem with the 07, and the 96".

In 08 harley went to a extremely light spring(in my 08 flhx anyways), it is far far away from a screaming eagle clutch spring in terms of spring rate. The standard installed spring is around 100 pounds weaker than the SE.

I found that after the first adjustment the cable adjuster runs out of thread and getting the 1/8" freeplay is tough to get .....almost like the cable has stretched......anybody notice that also?

Had that problem with my wife's 06 ultra. Had to replace the cable. It had a 1/2 inch of stretch.

So I wasnt losing my mind or doing it wrong? It had less than 5k miles on it! When I ordered my clutch cable from Magnum for my apes I noticed the stock pull was 3 1/2" I almost ordered the pull at 2 1/2" to allow for future strtching but didnt. Wonder if I shoulda?
