I feel your pain, I have had trips screwed up due to mechanical failures. I think if they have your son back in the saddle by Saturday they did you a solid.

Yellowstone harley has a great rep so you should be treated fair at least.

The guys are doing everything they can to get us back on the road as soon as possible. Travis the shop manager has been great with explaining all options and recommendations to build it correctly. So far so good!

I also have a friend who lost an inner cam bearing at 30,000 miles on an 04. He only had a stage 1 and did not abuse the bike. Those INA bearing just don't seem to be very reliable and as you've found a failure can do a lot of damage. I try to tell my experience to save someone else the headache. I'm sure there are plenty of examples of the bearings holding up longer but it's of little comfort to someone who has a failure. Hopefully the timkin bearing will be more stout.

Here is the kicker...When I spoke with the last tech that installed the gear drives back in at home after the last lifter failure on the Sturgis trip. These timken/torrington inner bearings were discussed with him and were supposed to be installed. J&L in Sioux Falls that got me back on the road during that trip explained that these needed to be in this build due to the 585's and the HTCC heads but they could only get me back to the stock chain drive setup with 257se cams and stock inner bearings to get me home. I doubt the last dealer (my local dealer) that installed the gear drives will step up as that tech I spoke with just prior to the install is no longer there now.

And to answer a earlier question regarding warranty on this build. I was told today that they will stand behind it for 2 years!

Thanks for all the help guys, I appreciate it very much.

Saturday morning update;
Just returned from the dealer. The motor is in the bike and Travis is buttoning up the top end. Should have it running by 1:00pm and in the dyno for an initial tune and about a 50 mile time frame to seat the rings and heat cycle the motor. I asked for the motor oil to be dumped after the rings have been set. We should be back on the road for the return trip (1500 miles) back home by 5:00pm.
Yellowstone H.D.along with Travis, Dave and Jim in Belgrade have really stepped up to diagnose the damage, get the parts needed next day, contact the local machine shop to save the case from the innner cam bearing destruction by machining and installing an insert and getting things buttoned back up and tuned for travel all in 4 days. This in my opinion was pretty exceptional. I seen that this dealer has a good reputation and so far has proved that with my experience. Time will tell how the build holds.
Thanks again for the input guys. I hope none of you every need this type of service, but if you do so while traveling this area, Yellowstone H.D. and the team there should be able to take care of you!

From you story I agree with your assessment of Belgrade HD and the guys in their shop.
Pretty amazing that this was all done as quickly as it was. Good Luck. I would get that bad boy home and then trade for a new one.

The motor is all new with the exception of the HTCC heads and the cases. The 103 crank/rod set is being installed with all heaver than stock parts including all Timken bearings and heaver S.E. cam plate and hiflow oil pump. So while I was thinking the same thing about trading. This build should be better than stock.
