Default Shock leaked oil. Can I still ride?

Posted this Sunday. It got buried before anybody responded.
Anybody know the answer?

2008 RK, odometer ~28K. Bike rarely is parked for more than three days but this time after sitting for two weeks, noticed little oil puddle under left pipe. It came from left (oem stock) shock. Inspected inside the rubber bellows dustcover. The source is at the rubber seal on the bottom of the cylinder (ie not from the air valve.). There was probably 8-10ml but no more than 12-15ml on the floor.

Intent is to replace with new pair but it will likely take me two weeks to make my choice, order, receive, and install.

So can I ride safely in the meantime? I am not sure what percentage of the total oil is missing. I also can't figure out if the oil is part of the dampening system or is it just in there to lubricate and cool?

Thanks in advance
Tom

Mine did the same thing. Noticed a decent sized puddle after sitting a week or so. The oil is part of the dampening system. Oddly enough mine haven't lost any air pressure with the oil loss. Maybe a couple lbs since I set them early this spring. I'm planning on replacing mine as well. Been riding them in the meantime though. They seem just fine. Maybe someone else will chime in? Btw, my bike had only been ridden 3-4k in 4 yrs by the previous owner and I don't know if he even knew it had air shocks or how to add air to them. I assume the original owner did as he put 55k on it. 2001 flht.

Inside the shock, I believe that you will find that the air is over the oil. When all of the oil is gone, the next thing to leak out will be the air. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, how melodramatic can you make it? Jeez...what makes you the final expert on the issue to begin with? Post your credentials. Otherwise, you're only throwing crap at the wall waiting to see what sticks. Gimme' a break.
