BTW with a Power Comander you will never see a code for lean because your O2 sensors are disconected. If you are going to check the hose I would have a filter in hand while you are in there. Should probably check fuel pressure before dis assembly.
Sticky intake valve? Do a compression check and a leak-down test.
Intermittent injector? You can pull the injectors and have them tested for flow, leak, spray pattern and coil resistance.
I wonder if it still has the 8* injectors and time for the 25* ones.
My wife's 06 Sportster acted similarly only when the engine was hot. turned out it was a bad crank possition sensor. Only acted up when hot. Never triggered any codes. Always ran great until the engine got up to operating temp. Replaced the sensor and it's run flawlessly for 4 years now.
I would call Fuel Moto and tell them whats going on, they will direct you as well as help you set your PC if it needs an updated map. Its carb'd correct?
I just spoke with the dealer and it was like talking to a moron! Its like they have no idea, they basically told me that it will be time consuming to find the problem and that they will have to have my bike for awhile to mimik the situation "meaning: we are going to keep the bike and charge you $100/hr"......uuugggghhhh!
I have yet to change the fuel filter! The bike has 19,550 miles on it. It seems to be a sensor the way it is breaking up. I just unplugged the power commander and ran it stock and still have the same problem. That means the power commander is ruled out!
I did remove and clean both the cam sensor and crank position sensor but I do not know if either is bad.
I can't say for sure, but I think HD had some problems with their CPS's because between 2006 and 2007, there was at least two modifications to the replacement CPS's. The last digit of Part number changed to "a" and then to "b" . That usually indicates a design change, and my guess is that the sensors were flawed. Again - only uneducated guesses on my part and I am talking about the sensors for 06 sportsters. I am not sure if the sensor for your bike is the same part number. All I know is that after 4 years, the bike has run perfectly with the new CPS installed.
