When I was in my early twenties riding sport bikes, I used to see Harley's and the only appeal they had for me was their beauty. I always viewed them as big, heavy, lumbering beasts that could barely get out of their own way but their beauty always caught my eye.
I had a buddy that road a Wide Glide back then tell me "A Harley is like a rolling piece of art, or fine jewelry...you wouldn't let the Mona Lisa be shown with dust all over it, and you wouldn't give your best girl a tarnished gold ring would ya?", and since I heard that it stuck with me and I still think of them like that today.
Considering that, I am a clean freak too. I get ribbed for it all the time by people I ride with, but they always follow their ribbing remarks with "it does look good though", so I'm cool with the ribbing I take for being a clean freak.
I'm with Dawgtragxx. It's an expensive toy and deserves to taken care of.
I wouln't go as far as "cleaning is better than riding" but, I love to clean my bike. Find it sort of therapeutic. I know it's a little twisted but:
"show me how clean your bike is and I will telll you what sort of biker you are"
try to keep mine clean but its hard when you live off a dirt road. most of the time ill wipe her down after she cools off but if im just going to work on her for a couple of days i wont bother.
they do look better when there shinny. nothing wrong with the guys that just want to ride either.
when i hade my sport bike i used to get people ask me all the time if i just road it off the show room floor.
