I know there are lots of mixed feelings about the mutazu tour pack, but most who actually have them like them. I see they are now making a tour pack that looks like they took a mold off a HD tour pack. It looks identical to a HD king tour pak in the pics and is $320 for just the box or $500 for the box, hardware, and backrest (no mounting hardware and price with shipping) and it's painted vivid black. Just wondering if anyone had one or has seen one and what their thoughts were? Wondering if it really looks as much like the HD version in person as it does on the website.
I've got one of their regular boxes. I bought it from a forum member here for $75. I painted it with some spray paint that was pretty close and some clearcoat. So I might have $85 in the whole thing. I don't keep it on the bike all the time, only when I need a little extra storage. No one has ever said anything negative about it and going down the highway I bet most people wouldn't even notice it's not a Harley box.
So I would imagine if you painted that box to match, not many people would be able to tell the difference, let alone care...
The picture of the bottom of the fully assembled TP on the website shows the heavily molded bottom HD used on the '05 and older TP's--the '06 and newer TP's have an essentially flat bottom. The difference won't matter functionally, but might be a cosmetic issue for some.
Also, it doesn't come with the metal plate in the bottom that the HD's come with; though, you can purchase the plate from HD if you want it.
You NEED some kind of plate at the bottom to spread the weight and take the stress off the bolt holes when you mount these otherwise the bottom will eventually break at the mounting point.
I've bee scowering ebay as well. I would like to have lights on the TP for extra visibility, and a lot of the aftermarket ones the dimensions are differernt and I don't think they will accept the HD lights. Hate to pay almost $1k for one.
