I and a new owner of a 11 FLHTK and today I went to use the Power adapter for the first time to charge my cell phone while riding and it didnt work. Is there something Im missing or should it fire up as soon as i plug something in? I tried it while the bike was not running but had the accessories turned on and also when the bike was running.

first check the fuse!! but more then likely the polarity is backwards on the power adapter you'll have to reverse it.
Not sure on the FLTH bu,t on the Ultra you plug the power supply cable in the accessory plug of the wire harness and there's no possibility to switch polarity.

Just reading your post again Chris. Am I right in thinking the bike came with the power outlet installed? If so, it might be a non OEM. In that case you might be better of tracing the wire. All you have to do is take the seat off and check whether it is wired from the battery or from the wire harness. Obviously, if it is non H-D VTwinbob could be correct about the polarity. If it is non HD you better make sure that there is a floating fuse in the circuit too.
Yes I am Bob, righthand side next to the battery so a little lower than just under the seat.
thought so, his is in the tour pak, when i fist read it i thought it was on the fairing, till i re-read it. they could have got the wires switched up when they hooked it up at the factory. that's why i suggested switching them and seeing if that worked.

Understood Bob, the original plug looks like this one and cannot be reversed (unless wrongly assembled in factory)
