Had a co-worker of mine get jammed on an on-line sale last month. Lost $16,000.00. Apparently, (at least this is the story), an unknown 3rd party began intercepting emails on the sellers end, and began to act on behalf of the seller. Gave the buyer instructions on how to wire the money to him (in two installments), which the buyer did.
After about 2 weeks w/o hearing from the seller, our LEO (the buyer) contacted him. Found out then that NONE of the emails regarding the wiring of money actually came from him.
The FBI is involved, but in the meantime, our guy has to repay the credit union 16k.
I sold my 02 sporty on ebay and have bought many items off ebay in the past, but will no longer use unless the item is in my area and can inspect in person. To many scams going on now. Have had my ebay account used by scamers. Just this week scamers listed about 10 items using my account. All of the items were motorcyle and autos priced with very low Buy it Now. I think I will probably close my account and never visit the site again. It seems that your account can be high jacked just from looking at items.
My Brother had this same problem ony it was on an 05 Dodge 3500 4X4 selling price that my brother won with was $4,000. And YES it was a scam. Called the guy and he told my Brother the truck sold two months ago for 33,000. I think Ebay has Grimlins.
I actually had forgotten about this thread and thought "What the hell is this, a hdforums guy trying to scam me!?"[:@] Then I remembered your reply about forwarding another scam. Whew! Anyway, isn't it hard to believe people fall for this stuff? Have a great day!
