Default Limp Mode

My 2008 Ultra Classic went into limp mode twice on me yesterday. I had to pull off the road and shut it down, wait 30 seconds and re-crank it. Rode about 40 miles and it happened again. Had to repeat the process. I did some research here and found TT418, identifying this problem. The bike had one of the codes listed in TT418. My question is, should this be a dealer repaired item at no cost to me? My bike just turned 40,000 miles, and as stated earlier it is an 08.

Thanks,
Dave

If it was me I'd print out TT418: DTCs P2135 and P2101 Theory and Diagnostics and take it to your dealer. I don't think they are obligated to do it because it is not a Service Bulletin but I think you have a good shot at it.

It seems you have a Throttle Position Sensor correlation error (not the right voltage coming out of the Throttle Actuator pot)

Re-seat (and clean if you can) the connector located behind the A/C cover preferably when your engine is cold. I already have contact grease on mine

I have done this on a couple of bikes and it seems to have cleared the problem, I used contact cleaner on the connectors followed by a liberal application of dielectric grease. The issues have not returned.
Good luck.

Good luck.

Never had the problem myself, but I was proactive and did the above anyway. I also did the same on my PCV to ECM connection.

Same thing happened to me on my 09 Classic at 15K miles. Pull to the side of the road, shut it down, wait 10 or 15 seconds, fire it up, and it could be good for 2 weeks or it could do it again in 2 miles. Turned out to be corrosion on connectors at the end of a wiring harness. After a little research, the dealer got Harley to admit that they knew about it, and they fixed it under warranty. Never did it again. If the dealer says they don't know about it, have them make a few phone calls. I found out that it's common enough that somebody'll know about it. Have them call their Harley rep.

Also note that if cleaning and dialectric grease does not fix it, the TSB calls for newer upgraded pins....

Thanks for all the help guys, they are looking into it now. I gave them the TSB. Hope they do me right. I bought my last 2 bikes from them, and I actually gave the TSB to the owner who was there when I brought the bike in. Then I helped him pick up a new street glide off the ground that one of his mechanics dropped off the side of a trailer!!!
