Hi all! Long time lurker first time poster.
Been looking at used SGs, (shocker, I know), found a couple today and had a question from those in the know:
Was there an option for the SGs to have a Sturgis style emblem in 2011? One I saw had the badge on the tank.
Next one:
If a SE heavy breather is on the bike but stock pipes are also on it, will that have caused problems for the system? I know if you open the breather you need to open the exhaust.....right?
it's a 2011 SG with less than 8 k miles
Thanks for your help
If the exhaust system is still restricted with the catalytic converter ( 09 CA models, 2010+ 50 State models) and stock mufflers, the intake is probably doing little more than a visual enhancement.... the system can't flow much more of the available air.
similar if the exhaust is opened but the restrictive stock intake is still in place.
the total flow through the motor is still lower than with hi flow systems in and out
What's a "Sturgis Style" emblem...?? Guessing previous owner swapped stock for something different...
For the breather - they probably flashed the ECM so should be good + ask for info. on any remaining warranty coverage...2011 still has 1+ yrs coverage remaining.

Not aware of an alternate emblem in '11, but they're just applied with adhesive strips so it's not uncommon for people to remove them and replace them with something else.
If you change pipes but leave stock A/C or change A/C but leave stock exhaust then there's no need to change the tune and no, it won't cause problems. But it also will not give any power gains. Both ends need to be uncorked and a new tune installed to reap the benefits of stage 1 mods.
no point on letting air in if you cant get it out , but you should be ok because stock pipes on that bike do let plenty out, it might change the sound a bit. Get the new pipes for fun though.
as for the emblem , plenty of people at shows sell custom emblems, the other guy probably just put on some aftermarket emblems.
I know what you mean...the FXD Sturgis tank emblem, (bar and shield). I found a pic online but apparently I cannot post it.
Ive seen them on other Harleys that are not the Sturgis model. Never seen one on a SG. I do like the look.
Yes that's it. I wasn't sure if that made it "special" or gave it super "poser" powers or anything, lol. I had not seen one like that before on something other than the old fxd.
Thanks to all for the info regarding the AC and pipes. You'll probably be seeing more questions from this FNG.
