Default Battery

HOLY CRAP Batman. I just priced a replacement battery on line for my FLHTCU, $170.95 plus the governments cut. What the hell makes this battery so special. I don't need to have the bar and shield on my battery, do I? Does that make it go faster?

No need for the bar and shield as long as you get a battery that fits the space well and you get a gel cell type, not a traditional battery. The gel cell is stock on your HD and should be replaced like for like. Any local battery supplier should be able to give you a good match for half or less but don't cut corners by getting something that is "close enough". You really do want a good match.

You can save some money if you go to someplace like http://www.jpcycles.com/ , but still it's probably going to run at least 125 bucks.

$ 98.00 delivered. Replace mine a month or so ago. Works great. Equal or better than the HD battery.
