As to your question regarding fuel to reserve to empty. I always reset one of my trip meter and go by the miles traveled. It's usually around 200 miles when I fill-up, taking in about 5.2 gallons. But not all 103's are the same in fuel consumption, just as the disclaimer, it's rider; terrain; speed, etc. Play it safe and see how much fuel you'd take on soon after your "reserve" light activates. You can get a better baseline from that information than what else anyone can provide you.
New 2012 SG owner here also. Extended floorboards, extended brake and shift pedal, C&C Solo seat and a 6.5" Klock Werks windshield. Much more to come. BTW, I saw that Blue in the sun and it really caught my eye. For some strange reason I prefer Vivid Black but that Blue is sharp.
Very nice - congrats! For what it's worth, the fuel light on my 08 comes on when I have 40 miles left (approx 1 gallon left in a 6 gallon tank). There should be a setting on your odometer that counts down the miles you have left.
