Default Help!!!!!!!

I Have 1997 Electra Glide that only runs on reserve. Recently the bike would run up to 100-120 miles on the clock and then it acts like it s running out of gas so I have to switch to reserve. Then coming back from Laughlin it started to do the same thing so I filled up in Ludlow and switched the petcock back to regular and it wouldn't run at all. So now it only runs on reserve. I have removed the petcock and screen and everything looks good. Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

I would think it would have to be the valve itself or the fuel filter inside the tank

You might want to place this in the EVO classic section but this might help.

#1 - read soft O2 response.

#2 - HD had a recall on EVO vacuum operated petcock issues way back when due to a damaged diaphragm creating issues, but I'm not sure if it was creating a leak or blocking flow.

I would check the vacuum line from the petcock to make sure it's in good condition and not leaking, then remove the petcock and pull it apart looking for blockage etc.

If it needs replacing I would go with an aftermarket petcock which does not have the vacuum line and plug the old line off.

so, you can test the petcock by applying vacuum with a pump ( to open the petcock) and testing that each of the 2 circuits works.

any gunk on the screen which might have clogged the main passage ?

the petcocks do go bad and need rebuild or replacement

a pingel is an easy replacement, but I see used stock style petcocks for sale all the time- but each of these would need to be checked.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I did check the petcock and filter in the tank and there is nothing blocking the passage. I think I will go with an aftermarket petcock and block the vacuum lines off and hopefully be done with it. Once again thanks everyone for the suggestions. Ride safe!

Pingles are real nice and flow fast on change to reserve but keep the instructions as the one I had was opposit of stock. Researve in the middle. This got me in trouble after I forgot and ran it on reserve thinking I had a change over when it sputtered to a stop.
