speedometer change
I have a 2012 Road King Classic. I am contemplating changing the speedometer out with the speedometer/tach combo with fuel gauge. Is it as easy to change as it sounds? do you have to disconnect the factory fuel gauge?
Freakin easy! You disconnect the existing speedo and connect the new one. (after you first marry it to your bike by connecting it to the data port on the left side of the bike).
I did it, and if an idiot like me can anyone can.

Unbelievably easy! I just replaced my fuel filter at 25K mile service. While I had the console off I took the speedo out to see if I could get to the lens to clean it on the back side. It's a sealed unit! Might just go with the speedo/tach combo later.
Throw it in the trash.

it's stupid easy, just remember to put a shop towel down on your tank when you take off the tank trim to protect the paint
also, it's good to know that there are TWO identical plugs that you can plug the new speedometer into for reprogramming - one works (because it's the correct OBDII plug behind the left side cover) and one doesn't (because it's just a power harness just behind the tank under the seat).
When I took off the seat I saw the "wrong" plug, and since it looks exactly like the OBDII plug thought "oh, there it is"...nope. If not for that little mis-adventure it's about a 5 minute job. You will see a mile count-down display starting at 30 - when it reaches 0 the speedometer is married to your bike and cannot be used with another bike ever. I took off my original one with 9 miles on it so I don't know if the originals come permanently married of if they can be reprogrammed, but I looked on ebay - they rarely sell and aren't worth very much so trashing it or using it as a paperweight at the office might be the way to go.

Same here, easy, picking your color is the thing, so many.
As for the other speedo, you know what to do - put it on the pile.
You know, the take offs when we upgrade something.
One guy was on here a while back, said his tach quit working.
No problems here, but I guess you could go back if any problems come up.
Oh, and I got my best price at New Castle HD on line, check around...
