Default Battery Replacement

Well, I bit the bullet and did as most everyone on the forum suggested and contacted BatteryMart for a new battery, much cheaper than bar and sheild. It should be there when I get home tonight. I took the seat off last night to try to determine what needed to be removed to facilitate replacement. I lifted the electronic box up and underneath is a plastic plate. Does that need to come out as well? Does anybody have instructions on an EASY way to get-r-done?

Just remember, the reason for the post lies in the word, EASY.

Yeah, that plastic piece (battery cover?) needs to come out. It was a PITA the first time I took it out. Since then its a little better, but not much. If I remember correctly, there's a metal piece (bracket?)that extends from the battery box towards the front of the bike. The battery cover has a slot cut in it that the bracket goes through, so you have to slide the piece forward till the slot clears the metal bracket then lift up on it.

You may have to tip the plastic cover down and forward then up as it clears the bracket.

It's been a while since I've removed it so I a little foggy on the procedure.

P.S. Take all the screws out of cover first. lol

The service manual has a pretty good description of how to remove the battery. In my 06 Ultra, I could remove the battery in 5 minutes or less. In my new FLHTK battery removal is a royal PITA!! Much more complicated.

Remember this rule: Positive post connection- "ON First - OFF Last"

When removing...take the neg connection off first.
When installing ...attach positive first.

I just did mine..is yours a side connection or top connection? (wires)

If side connection....you will need those copper looking spacers (comes with the new batt) when attaching the wires because the battery terminals are not flush with the side of the battery. Place the spacer between the terminal and the wire lug. The spacers have a flat side that rests on top of the battery....you'll see.
