I have a 2011 RKC with the 103 powerpak. Everytime I top tank off my miles reset to around 191 or so. I refill with tank pretty empty and I put in around 4.7 gallons. Im missing a whole gallon. Why not 5 plus gallons to refill? Im wondering what size tank I really have? Specs say 6.
You will find this has been discussed ever since the larger tank was introduced! It is down to you to get to know your bike, so you can safely use some of that 'missing' gallon. You know there is around a gallon still in your tank, so use your speedo trip and investigate! A few HDF owners have got in just over 6 gallons, when close to running dry.
Years ago I had a work acquaintance who swore up and down that his Wideglide (with 5.2 gallon tank) had a 3 gallon gas tank. I asked him how he figured this one out. He said "every time the gas gauge is on E it takes 3 gallons to fill it up". By the way he had never seen the reserve light and didn't know he had one...
I told him he still had 2 gallons in the tank. He got very pissed off at me. Proceeded to tell me off in no uncertain terms, and that he had owned the bike for 2 years and KNOWS his own machine!
I brought in the Harley brochure for his bike the next day with the size of his 5.2 gallon gas tank highlighted. Priceless!
Anyway, it has been proven many times on this board that the Touring tanks hold 6 gallons.
