2009 Ultra -- So the intermittent squeaking is probably caused by brake dust, but what might cause my front brake to "knock" when I apply the front brake? One knock right when I squeeze the brake lever. Just started noticing it today on a ride without my helmet, so I don't know how long it's been making the knock-noise.
Never mind. Did a search on front brake "clunk" and found some discussion on floating discs and brake pad noise. Gonna check both out, but apparently the knock/clunk is pretty common and doesn't affect braking. 1st time I heard it though it had me a little concerned.
I have floating rotors, no knock. Might want to do the following:
-Remove the perforated caliper cover
-Make sure the pad pins are seated properly with safety clip installed
-Make sure the pad spring, which serves as an anti-rattle device, is there and firmly seated (located under the pads)
-Make sure your caliper mounting bolts are tight to torque specs
-Make sure you have not picked up a small pebble that has lodged in the caliper
