Default Plugs?

May sound like a stupid group of questions but...

I just picked up 2 new spark plugs. Any tips to change them?

When engine cold?
What to put under boot before connecting to plug?
Torq spec?

I think the ones in the bike are OEM from 2006. No problems but figured why not change them. 6690miles on the bike/plugs.

???

THANK YOU!

Check for correct gap (.040) Put some anti-seize on the the plug treads and dialectic grease on the plug top and boot. Torque close to 16 foot lbs.

+1 on the Never-seize and Dielectric grease.

Set gap last night as you guys suggested. THANKS!

I'll have to stop at store and get some dialectric grease. I have the anti-seize. KEWL!

Just hoping the plugs come out easily. One has a little rust look on it. So far everything I've removed, axles for tire replacements etc, for service has come apart nicely. Hoping this is the same way.

THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!

Good day.

Since "indexing" my plugs; my scoot performance has increased significantly.

You might want to do that when installing your new plugs.

Just my opinion.....

Before removing, remove any debris around the plugs by blowing air around the plugs or use a Q-Tip with brake cleaner or alcohol.

Will clean the area well! THANKS! Rust...not flakes...or heavy but discoloring brown from age. BUT that is a great tip!

OK. So next set of questions...

I understand that concept but what did you use to do that, spacers/washers?

What direction should it point? Away from engine or toward or forward/backward?

THANKS!

Recommend you make the plug change only when cold. Hot steel plugs expand into the aluminum threads very tightly when the heads are hot. You can damage the heads if you try to remove/install them when hot. The torque specs are for a cold engine.

I would also like to know exactly how to index my plugs. Very interesting.
