So what do you guys do to plug in your gps's, mine hits my tank if i turn the bars all the way. Anyone find a shallow plug that we can use?

I had the same problem and didn't notice a small place where the plug was scratching the paint on my tank. I ordered a USB style cigarette adapter from a place on line called www.meritline.com They sell them for about $1.99 with free shipping when they are in sale, normal price is $3. This one only sticks out of the fairing about 3/8 of an inch and has a female USB that puts out 5 volts. Just ordered another one to have a spare. Found a place on line that sells Garmin power cords that plug into a USB port and the GPS end is a right angle. I think the cord was about $15. If I remember they sell them in 12, 18, and 24 inch lengths. I think I bought the 18 inch length. This allows me to wrap the power cord around the handle bar 1-2 times before it plugs into the GPS. If I use a regular USB to USB mini cable Garmin will only operate as if it is plugged into my computer (no map functions) so that is why I bought the special power cable.

I'm using the adapter that came with my Germin 1450, which sticks out pretty far. It doesn't hit the tank on full turns but think about it, the only time your bars will be turned completely to the left is when you engage the fork lock. Even then, mine does not hit and even if it does slightly, your stopped so there's no scuffing of anything.

Also, watch out for those cheap cables, I used one in the past and had issues with my GPS shutting off while riding down the road. Just my 2 cents...

The setup I used will NOT hit the fuel tank. Full lock left to full lock right, no interference.

Cigarette Lighter to USB adapter
http://www.amazon.com/Powerjolt-Dual.../dp/B0042B9U8Q

This adapter mounts flush with the fairing surface.

Then I used a USB power cable. Some say you can use the USB cable that comes with the Garmin. But that is really intended as a "data" cable and when I plugged it in, I never could get it to power up the GPS.
So, I purchased one here:
USB Charging Cable

Easier to use the power wire next to the headlight.

I am curious to see what mount everyone is suing for the Garmin. Thinking of mounting my Garmin Nuvi 1450 but want the ability to take the mount off when I am not traveling on a long trip. Suggestions?

I also have the 1450.
Here is a thread I started last year when I did my mount.
