Default My GPS Mount

I know there are several ways members have mounted their GPS, and this is how I mounted my Garmin 1450

First off, a picture of the completed setup. You can also see the Riders Claw mount for my iPod Touch.

Here is what I used.
For power, I just used the standard cigarette lighter outlet.
But I didn't use the standard auto power adapter, due to fuel tank interference.
The setup I used will NOT hit the fuel tank. Full lock left to full lock right, no interference.

Cigarette Lighter to USB adapter
http://www.amazon.com/Powerjolt-Dual.../dp/B0042B9U8Q

This adapter mounts flush with the fairing surface.

Then I used a USB power cable. Some say you can use the USB cable that comes with the Garmin. But that is really intended as a "data" cable and when I plugged it in, I never could get it to power up the GPS.
So, I purchased one here:
USB Charging Cable
3BR Powersports
Click the link, then scroll down to the USB Power Cables

For the handle bar mount, I used this:
GPS Mount
Motomount

For stock bars, use 1"

Then I mounted the GPS with these RAM Mount products

gpscity.com

RAM Mount Diamond Plate with 1 inch Ball RAM-B-238U
Model: RAM-B-238U SKU:RAMB238

For the Garmin 1400 series (Buy the one that fits your GPS Model)
RAM Mount Garmin nuvi 1490T Cradle RAM-HOL-GA35U
Model: RAM-HOL-GA35U SKU:RAMHOLGA35

RAM Mount Short Arm B-Socket RAM-B-201U-A
Model: RAM-B-201U-A SKU:RAMB201A

Now I really like that idea for a power source.
Could you also power up a MP-3 player at the same time?

Yes, I believe you could

That adapter converts the 12v cigarette lighter socket to 5v (just what the Garmin requires).
And dual USB outlets should allow you to power two devices, as long as they both used 5v power.

That's a nice clean set-up. Easy to remove when you don't need it.

I hate all the extra stuff mounted on my bars so I just type in route on my Droid hooked into my aux input and listen thru my speakers, If I know I have miles to go I watch my odometer and just swith over when I need my directions. Gotta love Verizon and the HTC Droid.

Out standing setup. Very, very cool. Thanks...I am going to do the same. Love this board. I just ordered the parts. By the way, spent this morning trying to Jerry rig my Garmin 550 power supply. Wish I had seen this post earlier. Geee's

Well, if that ain't a slick looking setup.

How long is the USB power cord you're using?

On the USB POwer Cable did you go with the longest one at 18"? and run it through your fairing or does it stay outside the fairing so its gone when not in use and in that case what length did you buy? They have a 9" 12" and 18" in this cable.
