I guess the angle of the picture makes is look that way, but the fuel gauge is completely visible when sitting on the bike.
The air temp gauge however is not. But it's pretty much useless anyway.
I won't disagree with the temp gauge. Only problem I found mounting it higher up was that the bar is not as "true" as it may be in a lower area. I've had to retighten my mount once or twice during the riding season.
My setup. Same thing, angle is alittle misleading.
Awesome, thanks Mo. I've been looking to do this same type of set up before the summer, you did my research for me!

Glad I could help with a few ideas.
For the USB cigarette lighter adapter, there are several manufacturers for them.
I've even seen them at Wal Mart too.
Nice! I juat set mine up with the same mount from motomounts I think it was and just used the cradle that came with my Nuvi 660 it snaps right on the ball. then I ordered the hard wire cable for my gps since it is a 9pin garmin type connector and was only 20 bucks. works great and looks nice and clean. I will however get one of those adapters for ipod or phone charging on the go.
Here is my setup. I made the main bracket that attaches to the fairing out of 2" aluminum angle. I then screwed a 17mm aluminum ball onto the bracket and used the stock bracket for the Nuvi 2450LM. Hardwired into the fairing . Also have my Radar Detector with visualert right next to it, also hardwired. Since it is so high it doesn't block any of the gauges and it is in your normal line of sight. I used double sided tape to hold it to the inner fairing. Put 15000 miles on my last bike with a similar setup.

I find that my iPod can run for days on end without being recharged.
So, I haven't hooked a power cable up to that one yet. Although, the cable that comes with the iPod/iPhone will plug right in.
Really an awesome set up. Did some searching on ebay and found single usb adapters but no double ones. Also found one with bracket and socket so it could be mounted elsewhere. Again thanks for the pics and info..

I found the one I used at Best Buy in Springfield.
Not sure, but you might find them at Target there at the lake also.
Or even Wal Mart.
Here is what I used.
For power, I just used the standard cigarette lighter outlet.
But I didn't use the standard auto power adapter, due to fuel tank interference.
The setup I used will NOT hit the fuel tank. Full lock left to full lock right, no interference.
Then I used a USB power cable. Some say you can use the USB cable that comes with the Garmin. But that is really intended as a "data" cable and when I plugged it in, I never could get it to power up the GPS.
So, I purchased one here:
USB Charging Cable
3BR Powersports
Click the link, then scroll down to the USB Power Cables http://www.3brpowersports.com/products_usb_cables.htm
I like the idea of the usb power source. I just ordered one and a power cable for my Magellan 4040. Thanks for the pictures. I'm sold.
