I was never a big fan of the rubber bumper on my RK. So I bought this cool led bumper insert which acts as a brake and running light. It replaces the oem rubber bumper insert and is made by Kuryakyn; http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/414...-Bumper-Insert.
It seems to be well made but I am scratching my head about the way it fits on the bike. As you can see in the attached picture, theres a gap between the stock bumper chrome (where the insert is housed) and the fender. This gap was made up by the original rubber bumper, but the light doesn't compensate for it. Without that coverage, the back of the light fixture, wiring and air space are visible within about 5 feet of the rear of the bike.
I talked to Kuryakyn customer service. They were very responsive but the product is what it is. So my question is;
Should I paint the back of the fixture and hope it blends better, or just get a refund?
I bought one at Americade last week and I'm very happy with it.The fender tip light on my Classic fills that gap.I recommended one to a buddy with a Road King,but I can see there is an issue.Thanks for pointing it out.
What if you cut the upper lip off your rubber bumper?Is there some way it could be mounted in there to fill the gap?Those bumpers can't be very expensive?

It looks like its made to fit your bike. There's definitely an issue on the RK though.

That's an idea worth trying. I might be able to glue it to the top of the light. I think I'll try it, thanks!
Man...I see there is definitely a gap. I have one on my Limited and it has no gap to speak of. But the limited has a rear fender tip light. I wonder if that is waht takes up the extra space. Also with mine, some of the LEDs quit working about 2 weeks after I installed it. Kuryakan swapped it out but I was disappointed I had to pay shipping both ways. I put the new one on last week...so far so good.
I will try to get some photos in a few days.
