All - Looking to pick up my first SG this week. Im currently riding a 2006 Softail standard.
I found a bike in great shape on a local classified. 2008 Street glide, 96, 6 speed, 4600 miles. for 13.5k.
I like the fact that it has the 96 and 6th gear but worried about the frame. I feel the the price is a great for this bike but dont want to have buyers remorse about holding out for a 09 which would be several thousands more in price.
Thoughts. Being my first SC should i not be concerned?
I agree, that's a helluva price. You'll notice a lot more vibration with the SG. I installed a Glide-Pro front motor mount on mine and it really calmed it down, but it's far from smooth - at least I can see through my rear-view mirrors at idle now. I plan on installing the rest of the Glide-Pro system in the winter. Other than that, they're great bikes.

Congrats and welcome to the forum!
Thats my only concern.. my softail was so smooth at idle compared to sitting on this one in the parking lot. Has anyone else done the Glide-Pro?
I have 30k on my 08, bought new. Not a single problem with the exception of the HK radio which started muting randomly. No compensator problems or fuel pump issues, which are problems on the 08 model. Buddy bought a 08 RG a week after I did (same dealer) and he had compensator issues.
I agree with the other comments, nice price, I'd buy it and not wait for a deal on the new frame (09+), I wouldn't think it was worth it. I have 2500 miles on a new frame model when I did Fly/Ride this spring, and while it's a nice upgrade, it's not the magic bullet some claim it to be, at least in my opinion. I'd make sure the steering head bearings are greased and tightened properly, and you should be fine.
Can't help you on the vibration...you will notice it coming from a softtail. Buddy traded in his Heritage Springer on an 11 Ultra, and he constantly bitches that it vibrates at idle more...he does admit it's smoother going down the road...
