Last time I went into Canada was in '08. They asked if I had any weapons at my house in Oklahoma, I said no. They let me in after they pulled me into the inspection area and searched my van. I think they were disappointed they didn't find anything.

Default Pocket knife??

So how do you answer the knife question if you have a little pocket knife? I have carried the same knife in my pocket for the last 15 years and hope to bring it with me. Have read lots of places that both directions are OK with you having one, but curious how to respond quickly and correctly? Any input is much appreciated

Tell them it's for cutting zip ties on the bike - "It's a tool" not a weapon....

Just leave it at home and don't take any chances. Unless you are hunting, fishing, camping etc why would you need it?

Yep. Turned away two years ago for a 40 year old offense that was "removed" from my records. Still showed up on their check, and they turned me around. Damn shame, too: use to ride Canada in the '70s, but will never even try to go back !!

That would make too much sense. I wish I could say I'm surprised at everyone coming home to the US being treated like we should have stayed out, but I'm sadly not. Been there, done that. Really is pretty sad. I was adopted at birth. When I was a year old or so, my parents took me to Mexico on vacation. Coming back into the US, they were held at the border for like 8 hours while they verified that I was legally their child, let alone that they were American citizens. What happened to that kind of security? P.S. my parents are both as pale as can be and I was pale and blond haired, so, unlikely kidnapped from Mexico. lol

Went up to Niagara last year on a 4-day weekend. Getting into Canada was easy. Candanian Customs was very friendly, took about a minute for her to check both our passports, Have a nice day and wave us through. Coming back was a pain in the ***. After sitting on the Rainbow Bridge in traffic for over an hour in 90+ heat, we were pulled over for inspection. They at least let us sit inside so they could run the dog around the bike. I think they were suspicious as to why we only stayed two nights. Then the night mare of trying to get all that traffic out onto the main highway. I do not recommend the Rainbow Bridge Crossing in Niagara Falls. Take the time and run down Niagara Parkway and cross the Peace Bridge into Buffalo or else go up to the Queenstown/Lewistown Bridge Border crossing. We'll do that in 12 days coming back out of Canada. Leaving in 2 days for a 10 day trip to the New England States and Canada

They have sure tightened up the borders in the last few years.
A buddy went up on a snowmobile trip, along with 10 others.
They found out he had a 20 yr old conviction for reckless conduct, they put him
in one room, and his wife in another, and questioned them for an hour!
They ended up refusing entry, saying "we don't want you criminal types in our country!
Screwed up the trip big time!
He eventually got the offense taken off his record, lots of time and paperwork and money, but he finally was allowed to cross the next year.
They would never let me across!! LOL

I'm curious about the post that said they asked if he owned any guns at home in Oklahoma. So if they ask me that what should I say. Normally, since there is no government record of a US citizen purchasing a weapon (form 4473s stay in the gun shop) most folks could say no and there would be no way for anyone to know if it were the truth or not. However, I own five items that fall under the National Firearms Act and to purchase them I had to register them with the BATF and wait months for them to do a background check on me. So for these items my name is on a list. What is a border gaurd going to think if I tell him yes I have machine guns and suppressors at home.......... Or worse, what is he going to think if I say no and the record is right in front of him?
